Worthing is a coastal town in West Sussex positioned along the English Channel between Brighton and Chichester. The driving environment here blends seafront roads running parallel to the shoreline with residential streets climbing gently northward toward the South Downs. The A27 trunk road lies just north of the town, connecting drivers to major routes east and west, while the A24 provides direct access to London. This mix of coastal roads, suburban housing estates, and nearby rural approaches creates a varied learning environment. Older Victorian and Edwardian areas to post-war developments further inland, each with their own traffic patterns and road layouts that learners must master.
An intensive driving course lets you pass your test in days or weeks rather than months. Lessons in Worthing make full use of the local geography to build a complete skillset in concentrated sessions. Your instructor will guide you along the Marine Parade seafront where parking manoeuvres and pedestrian awareness are essential, then progress to busier through routes like Chapel Road and South Farm Road. You will practise roundabouts at key junctions including the Lyons Farm interchange, dual carriageway merging on the A27, and quieter country lanes approaching Findon and Salvington. This efficient approach means you cover urban navigation, higher speed roads, and residential zones within a compressed timeframe, building confidence rapidly through repeated daily practice.
Worthing has a rich heritage reflected in its landmarks. The Worthing Pier extends into the sea and has been a focal point since 1862, while the Highdown Gardens to the north showcase chalk downland horticulture. The town centre retains period architecture around Chapel Road, blending historical character with modern shopping facilities.
Your intensive course will prepare you for the practical test at the Lancing DVSA test centre, located just east of Worthing. Test routes commonly include sections of the A27, residential streets in both Worthing and Lancing, and independent driving segments requiring sound navigation skills. Your Rated Driving instructor will ensure you practise extensively on these actual test routes, familiarising you with every junction, roundabout, and road layout you are likely to encounter during your examination.

Lancing is the nearest practical test centre for Worthing learners, sitting around two miles east along the coast with a pass rate slightly above the national average. Routes typically cover the residential streets around Lancing and Worthing, plus sections of the A27 and coastal A259, so most instructors spend the final lessons working those areas until they feel routine.
Burgess Hill is the second option at roughly thirteen miles north-east, though its pass rate runs a little lower than Lancing. Chichester sits around fifteen miles west and posts the highest pass rate of the three, making it worth the extra distance when Lancing availability is tight or if your instructor thinks the quieter routes there would suit your test-day nerves better.
The Worthing theory centre is the obvious choice, less than half a mile from the town centre and easily walkable or a short bus ride. Brighton is around ten miles east if Worthing slots are full, and Chichester sits roughly eighteen miles west as a third option when the closer centres are heavily booked.
The sensible order for an intensive course.
Sitting your theory test before you start an intensive course is the fastest route to a full licence. You will not need to wait for theory results between practical lessons, and your instructor can plan around a fixed practical test date.
Driving Test Success is the app we recommend for theory prep. It covers every DVSA revision question, all hazard perception clips, and full mock tests, with content for both manual and automatic learners.
