Living in Lancing means regular drives along the A259 coastal road to Brighton or Worthing, navigating the busy South Street during rush hour, and finding your way through the residential streets around Crabtree Lane and Grinstead Lane. For many residents, a car is the practical choice for commuting to work, reaching retail parks, or simply accessing areas beyond the immediate town centre. Whether you're heading to Shoreham Airport for work or making the journey to the beach, confident driving opens up opportunities that public transport cannot always match.
An intensive driving course with Rated Driving prepares you for all these real-world situations in concentrated, focused sessions. Rather than spreading lessons across months, you cover everything from roundabout navigation and dual carriageway merging to residential parking and coastal road driving in just days or weeks. Your instructor will take you through the challenges of the level crossing on Lancing railway station approach, the tricky junctions around North Road, and the speed awareness needed on faster stretches leading out of town. This focused approach means skills build rapidly, with each session reinforcing the last before knowledge fades.
Lancing sits between the South Downs and the coast, with Lancing College and its distinctive chapel dominating the skyline. The town has grown around its historical connection to nearby Shoreham, and local driving reflects a mix of narrow older streets and modern residential developments. You will also practise near the Shoreham Beach area, where road conditions and traffic patterns differ from the main town routes.
Your nearest DVSA practical test centre is in Worthing, and your Rated Driving instructor will ensure you are fully prepared for the actual test routes used by examiners there. Intensive courses are designed to bring you up to test standard quickly, combining theory understanding with practical skill in a short timeframe. By the end of your course, you will have experienced all the road types and scenarios you are likely to face on test day, giving you the best chance of passing first time.

Lancing learners typically book their practical at the Lancing test centre, less than a mile west of the town centre, which posts a pass rate around the national average. Routes cover the residential streets through Lancing and North Lancing, plus sections of the A27 and coastal roads, so most instructors spend the final lessons working those junctions and roundabouts until they feel natural.
Burgess Hill is the second-closest option at around eleven miles north-east, though its pass rate runs a little lower, making it a sensible backup when Lancing slots are scarce. Chichester sits roughly seventeen miles west and posts a noticeably higher pass rate, which pulls some learners that way when they have time to practise the different route patterns around the city outskirts.
Worthing is the nearest theory centre to Lancing, just over two miles south-west and simple to reach by bus or a short drive. Brighton is the next option around eight miles east, closer if you're already heading that direction. Chichester is roughly twenty miles west and only worth considering if Worthing and Brighton are fully booked.
Intensive course bookings fill quickly through spring and summer. Secure your place with a £250 deposit, balance payable before your start date.
