Living in Kingston upon Thames means navigating everything from the busy A308 Kingston Road into central London to the winding residential streets around Norbiton and the tight roundabouts at Fairfield. For many residents, driving is essential for commuting to workplaces across South West London, getting to Kingston Hospital, or simply managing the school run and weekend trips to the surrounding Surrey countryside. Whether you're heading north over Kingston Bridge towards Richmond or south through New Malden, confident driving skills open up opportunities that public transport alone cannot match. An intensive driving course with Rated Driving means you can gain your licence in days or weeks rather than waiting months, getting you quickly and efficiently.
Our intensive courses are designed to prepare you for the real driving you will face daily in Kingston upon Thames. Your instructor will take you through the challenges of multi-lane traffic on the A3 slip roads, negotiating the sometimes confusing layout around the Cromwell Road bus station area, and managing the flow of pedestrians and cyclists near the town centre. You will practise bay parking in the packed car parks, master roundabouts at Surbiton and Hook, and build confidence on faster routes like the A240 towards Epsom. Concentrated sessions mean you cover all essential road types quickly, reinforcing skills through repetition and focused practice rather than spreading lessons thinly over many months.
Kingston upon Thames offers a distinctive mix of historic character and modern life. The Kingston Bridge has connected the town to the wider region for centuries, while the All Saints Church stands as a reminder of the town's royal heritage. Today, the area combines riverside charm with excellent shopping, dining, and transport links, making it a popular place to live and work.
Your test will be conducted at the Tolworth test centre, and your Rated Driving instructor will ensure you are thoroughly familiar with the routes and conditions examiners use. You will practise the exact manoeuvres, road layouts, and challenging junctions that appear on test day, so you arrive fully prepared to meet the required standard and pass first time.

The closest practical centre to Kingswood is Redhill Aerodrome, around five miles south-east, which runs at a pass rate slightly above the national average. Test routes cover a mix of quieter rural lanes and busier sections through Redhill itself, so lessons typically balance manoeuvres in residential areas with main-road experience. Morden sits roughly seven miles north and posts a lower pass rate, though its urban environment can be useful preparation if your lessons already cover similar territory.
Tolworth is the third option at around eight miles north-west, with a pass rate close to Redhill's and routes that run through suburban south-west London streets. Most local learners stick with Redhill Aerodrome unless availability pushes them towards one of the London centres, which tend to book up faster during peak months.
Horley is the nearest theory centre to Kingswood, roughly eight miles south and straightforward to reach along the A217. Croydon sits at a similar distance to the north-east and offers more frequent slots during busy periods. Morden is the third option around eight miles north, worth considering if the first two are fully booked.
Rated Driving pairs intensive course bookings with the No. 1 theory test app in the UK.
