Intensive isn’t the right fit for everyone. Here’s how to know whether it suits where you are right now.
Cricklewood sits on the busy A5 Edgware Road, one of London's most historic routes that can see heavy traffic throughout the day, particularly during peak hours when commuters travel between the suburbs and the city centre. This constant flow of vehicles, combined with the mix of residential streets branching, makes it an excellent training ground for learners who need to master lane discipline, roundabout navigation and defensive driving in real urban conditions. An intensive driving course lets you pass your test in days or weeks rather than months, meaning you can tackle these varied road environments in concentrated sessions that build your skills rapidly and consistently.
Your lessons will cover everything from the quieter residential areas around Claremont Road and Chichele Road to the more demanding conditions on Cricklewood Broadway, where you will practise dealing with buses, cyclists and pedestrians in close proximity. The course structure focuses on speed and efficiency, covering all local road types in concentrated sessions that ensure you gain experience with box junctions, traffic light sequencing and the kind of multi lane manoeuvring you will encounter around Staples Corner. Your instructor will also take you through residential zones where parked cars narrow the carriageway, teaching you to judge gaps and negotiate oncoming traffic with confidence.
Cricklewood has a rich local character, with Cricklewood Broadway forming the commercial heart of the area and the nearby Gladstone Park offering quieter surrounding streets that are ideal for practising speed control and observation skills. The area connects well to neighbouring Willesden and Hendon, providing diverse route options that replicate the variety of challenges you will face in your driving test.
Your nearest practical test centre is Hendon, and your Rated Driving instructor will prepare you thoroughly on the actual test routes used by examiners there. You will become familiar with the specific roundabouts, junctions and road layouts that feature in the Hendon test area, including approach roads to the North Circular and the residential streets surrounding the test centre itself. This targeted preparation, delivered in intensive back to back sessions, gives you the repetition and muscle memory needed to perform confidently under test conditions. Book your intensive driving course with Rated Driving today.
Hendon is the closest practical centre to Cricklewood, roughly three miles north-east, where pass rates sit in the mid-forties. Routes typically cover the residential streets around the North Circular and quieter suburban sections of Brent and Barnet, so most lesson plans focus on lane discipline, roundabouts and careful observation in moderately busy conditions.
Mill Hill is the second-nearest option at around four miles north-east, running at a similar pass rate to Hendon, and often easier to book when Hendon slots fill up. Southall is roughly four miles south-west and posts comparable pass rates, making it a sensible third choice if the other two are tight for dates.
North Finchley and Southgate are both roughly six miles north-east of Cricklewood, offering the nearest theory test slots. Palmers Green sits around eight miles out in the same direction and works as a backup when the first two are fully booked.
Intensive course bookings fill quickly through spring and summer. Secure your place with a £250 deposit, balance payable before your start date.
