L02 / Free test-date swap

Take a test date
you would actually pick.

Innova has one of the strongest rates in London, so its dates go fast and learners here often take one that arrives too early. If yours has come round before you are ready, another learner may be glad to take it and hand you a later one.

Nothing about your booking changes unless you both say yes. DVSA makes the swap on the call, not us.

What has to be true for a swap
  • You both need a car practical already booked
  • At least 10 full working days before the earlier test Monday to Saturday count as working days. Sundays and public holidays do not.
  • You both need one of your two DVSA changes left Nobody outside DVSA can check how many you have left, so we ask.
  • Same test type and fee band A weekday test can only swap with another weekday test.

you learn

However you want to learn, it is one booking, matched to independent DVSA-licensed instructors covering Enfield.

04.1 / MANUAL

Manual lessons

Enfield gives you space to build clutch control on quiet suburban roads before the A10 and the North Circular ask for quick decisions. A manual licence lets you drive both types of car.

Book manual lessons
04.2 / AUTOMATIC

Automatic lessons

Automatic costs the same as manual here. It suits learners who want the hours going into the A10 and the roads around the test centre rather than into gear selection.

Learning to drive
in Enfield

Fast dual carriageway on the A10, unlit Hertfordshire lanes fifteen minutes west.

Roads your instructor will use

The A10, and then nothing at all

The A10 runs the length of the borough as a fast dual carriageway with heavy junctions, and it is on local test routes. Fifteen minutes west of it, past Botany Bay, the roads are unlit Hertfordshire lanes. Instructors here use both, because a learner comfortable with one and not the other is only half ready.

When to book

The M25 spill and the industrial east

When the M25 is disrupted the traffic comes down into the borough, and the industrial estates around Ponders End carry lorry traffic that peaks early. Instructors who teach Enfield watch both and will move a lesson west rather than sit in it.

Getting to the test

Your test is in the borough, and it is a good one

Innova Business Park publishes 53.9% on over eight thousand tests, the second-highest of any London centre, and it is local. You will be tested on roads you have already driven, which matters more than most learners expect.

Worth knowing

The other Enfield centre is not one to book on

DVSA also publishes an Enfield centre at Brancroft Way, but it conducted 362 tests in the year, which is far too small a sample to read a pass rate from. Innova Business Park is the one with a meaningful figure, and it is the one your instructor will prepare you for.

Enfield lesson questions

Straight answers on prices, test centres and booking in Enfield.

Lessons are £40 an hour across EN1, EN2 and EN3, and automatic costs exactly the same as manual. Ten hours is £389 and twenty is £764, which brings it to £38.20 an hour. The figures come from the booking system, so the price here is the price you book.

Enfield's own centre at Innova Business Park, inside the borough. Its current DVSA figures are at the top of this page: 53.9%, the second-highest of any London centre. Tottenham and Wood Green to the south are the alternatives and both sit below it.

Innova Business Park. DVSA also publishes an Enfield centre at Brancroft Way, but it conducted only 362 tests in the reporting year, which is too small a base to read a pass rate from with any confidence. Innova conducted over eight thousand.

Yes, and it costs no more than manual. Say automatic when you book and we match you with an instructor whose car is automatic and who covers your EN postcode. It suits learners who want their hours going into the A10 and the routes around the test centre.

No. Rated Driving is an agent rather than a school, which is why the instructor who turns up is a local independent working EN postcodes and not an employee sent from a depot. We hold your payment until after each lesson, then pass it on. Every instructor is DVSA-licensed and DBS-checked, and you can ask for a female instructor.

Enfield, Edmonton, Palmers Green, Southgate, Winchmore Hill, Ponders End, Bush Hill Park, Cockfosters, Oakwood and Freezywater among others. 8 of the borough's 12 postcode districts are shared with a neighbouring borough or with Hertfordshire, so enter your postcode and we check who covers your exact street.

They can. The lanes west of Botany Bay run into open Hertfordshire, unlit and at national speed limit. It is unusual for a London borough to offer that within a normal lesson, and instructors here use it.

Yes. Say nervous when you book and we match you with a patient instructor. The residential roads around Winchmore Hill and Oakwood are wide and quiet enough to spend several hours on before you go near the A10.

Yes. Say refresher when you book. The A10 and unlit rural lanes at night are the two things people most often want the hours spent on here.

Yes. Pass Plus is the DVSA's six-module course for new licence holders, covering motorway, dual carriageway, rural and night driving, and some insurers reduce premiums for it. Enfield suits it unusually well, because the M25 and the Hertfordshire lanes are both minutes from the borough boundary.

They can, before your test if you want. Learners are allowed on motorways in a dual-control car with a fully qualified instructor. The M25 runs along the northern edge of the borough, so it fits into a normal lesson rather than needing a special one.

DVSA research puts it at 45 hours of professional lessons plus 22 hours of private practice. The A10 and the rural lanes north of the borough both tend to add a few hours, because they ask for opposite things. Your instructor will give you an honest count after assessing you.

It moves weekly, so check GOV.UK on the day you book. Two things stay true: tests can be booked up to 24 weeks ahead, and there is no official waiting list or cancellation list. Innova's strong rate makes it sought after, so its dates go quickly. If you already hold a date and want an earlier one, our free Driving Test Swap matches you with another learner who wants yours.
