Galleys Corner sits on the Braintree bypass built in the 1980s and takes its name from the old T junction where Braintree Road met Long Green. The A131 comes up past Great Notley and joins the A120 there, which makes those two roundabouts the pieces of Braintree every learner has to get comfortable with. Once they are behind you, Bocking and the Notleys are quiet by comparison.
The market runs by the Town Hall on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and Braintree Village, the designer outlet that used to be the Freeport, has a station of its own at the end of the branch line.
