Swap your driving test
with another learner.
The swap itself is made by DVSA, by phone
Already have a car practical test booked? Someone else may have a date you would rather have, and want yours. We find them, free. Nothing about your booking changes unless you both say yes and DVSA agrees on the call.

The process
How a swap works.
Four steps, then one phone call that you make, not us.
Add your test, and what you would rather haveYour centre, date and time, and the dates that would suit you better. It takes about two minutes.
We look for a learner whose booking fitsChecked against the rules DVSA publishes.
You both say yes, then you get the one thing DVSA needsOnly then does each of you get the other's booking reference.
One of you calls DVSA and they do the restDVSA phones the other learner, runs security checks with both of you, and makes the swap if you both agree. Either of you can say no at that point.
The rules, plainly
What DVSA requires in 2026.
All of this comes from GOV.UK. If your booking does not meet it, we will tell you rather than waste your time.
You both need a car practical test already bookedA swap exchanges two existing bookings. You can only swap your own test, with another learner driver.
At least 10 full working days before the earlier of the two testsMonday to Saturday count as working days. Sundays and public holidays do not.
You both need a change leftDVSA allows two changes per booking and a swap uses one. Nobody outside DVSA can check how many you have left, so we ask.
Same test type and fee bandA weekday test can only swap with another weekday test, and so on through the five bands.
The centre rule has to work for both of youYou can swap with someone booked at the same centre as you, one of the three nearest to the centre you booked at, or the centre you first booked at.
It is done by phone, and only by youSwaps happen on one phone call, made by the two of you. We are not allowed to do it for you.
The only thing that ever passes between two learners is the booking reference. Never give another learner your driving licence number, your theory test pass certificate number, your address, your phone number, your email address or your card details. DVSA will never ask for your card number to make a swap.
Being straight with you
What we cannot promise.
We cannot promise you a match, or that a swap will completeIt depends on another learner wanting your date as much as you want theirs, and on them picking up the phone. Nobody can see how many changes the other learner has left. DVSA decides, with both of you, on the call.
We are not DVSADVSA does not run, approve or endorse any service that lists, matches or brokers test swaps. We never scan or watch the booking service. We introduce two learners, and that is all.
If you want an earlier date
How to get an earlier driving test.
Three routes are legitimate. One is not, and it is the one most learners are pushed towards.

Cancellation finder apps are not allowed
Including the ones that only notify you and let you do the booking yourself. The penalty lands on your driving licence number, not on the app.
You are not allowed to use unofficial services that scan the driving test booking service for appointments. This includes driving test cancellation finder websites or apps.
Where DVSA sees activity that does not look like normal personal use, it suspends that licence number's online access for 12 months. We never scan, poll or watch the booking service, and we never will.
Questions people actually ask
Driving test swap questions.
Every answer that states a DVSA rule links to the GOV.UK page it comes from.
Can you swap your driving test with another learner?
Yes. DVSA runs an official learner-to-learner swap, arranged by phone, for two learners who each already have a car practical test booked. See the GOV.UK guidance.
How many times can you change a car driving test?
Twice. DVSA allows two changes for car driving tests, and six for all other test types. GOV.UK, changing your driving test.
Does swapping use one of my two changes?
Yes. Swapping counts as one of the two changes you are allowed to make, and you both need at least one change available. Nobody outside DVSA can check how many either of you has left, so we ask and we take your word for it.
How much notice do you need to swap a driving test?
At least 10 full working days before the earlier of the two tests, not just before your own. Monday to Saturday count as working days; Sundays and public holidays do not.
Can you swap with someone at a different test centre?
Only within DVSA's location rule, and it has to work for both of you: the same centre as you, one of the three nearest to the centre you booked at, or the centre you first booked at. We use DVSA's published list as an indication only. It cannot see where either of you first booked, so DVSA may allow pairs we cannot show, and it decides on the call.
Can a weekday test swap with a weekend test?
No. The test type and fee band have to match, so a weekday test can only swap with another weekday test.
Do you make the swap for me?
No, and we are not allowed to. Only the learner can change, swap or cancel their own test, and doing it for someone else breaches DVSA's terms. We introduce two compatible bookings; you and the other learner call DVSA yourselves on 0300 200 1122, Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.
Is Rated Swap free?
Yes. Finding a match and getting the other learner's booking reference costs nothing, and we never ask for a card. We are not DVSA.

Real learners.
Real bookings.
Real bookings.
Your details are never shown to another learner. A match only ever sees the test, never the person.
Kept to a minimumYour name and your email address. Never your phone number, your address, your licence number or your card details.

Free to use. No card needed, at any point.
Step 1 of 6 · Verify
One quick check.
Everyone here verifies their email, so you are not looking at bots. It does not prove a booking exists, which is why DVSA confirms every swap on the call.

Two optional questions
Answer these and we can show you more centres. Skip them and you lose nothing.
Why we ask, and what it does not do
Neither answer is on your confirmation email, so we are asking what you remember, and we cannot check either one against anything. Telling us is not proof of anything and it decides nothing. It only widens the centres we are able to show you, and DVSA still confirms what your booking allows when you call.
The centre where you first made this booking. DVSA allows a move back to it.
A separate question: the centre you were booked at on 9 June 2026, if you already had a test booked then.
Step 3 of 6 · Your ideal test

better look like?
The wider your dates and centres, the more learners you could be paired with. You can change any of this later.
Centres, honestlyWe only offer centres DVSA's published list says you could move to. It cannot see where you first booked, so DVSA may allow more, and it confirms on the call.

Step 5 of 6 · Waiting
Your yes is in.
We have told the other learner that somebody wants their slot. They may say no, and they are under no obligation either way.
Waiting for the other learner
While you wait
Nothing has been sharedNeither of you has the other's reference or name. If they say no, your listing goes back into the marketplace and nothing about your booking changes.
Worth doing now
Check the phone number on your DVSA bookingDVSA will only ring you on the number recorded on your booking. Correcting it is free and does not use one of your two changes.
Step 6 of 6 · Mutual match
You both want
this swap.
this swap.
We re-checked every rule against both bookings. DVSA still has the final say, on the call.
Here is exactly what to do.
Follow these in order. One of you calls DVSA, and DVSA then contacts the other. You never have to speak to each other.
Step 1
Check the phone number on your DVSA booking is right If the number on either booking is wrong, DVSA cannot complete the swap. Updating it is free and does not use one of your two changes.
Step 2
Make sure you can both be reached by phone Nothing to arrange between you. Either of you can call, on a weekday between 8am and 5pm, well before the earlier of your two tests. DVSA then rings the other learner on their booking number, so from now on answer numbers you do not recognise.
The other learner's booking reference
Hidden until you ask for it
Every time this is shown it is recorded, and the rules are re-checked first. It is the only thing that crosses between the two of you.
Step 3
One of you calls DVSA on 0300 200 1122 Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. Select option 1 and follow the prompts. Whoever calls needs their own booking reference and the other learner's, which is above.
Step 4
DVSA then phones the other learner It runs security checks with both of you, and the other learner has to confirm they agree. Either of you can say no at that point, and the swap simply does not happen.
Step 5
Expect no confirmation email DVSA does not send one. Come back here and tell us what happened, because otherwise we have no way of knowing.
Never needed, never give it
Your licence number, your address, your card details DVSA will never ask for your card number or security code to make a swap. Never give another learner your driving licence number, your theory test pass certificate number, your address, your phone number, your email address or your card details. If anyone asks, it is not the official process.
Worth doing before you call
Check with your driving instructor Make sure they are free for the new date, happy for you to take the test then, and that you have a car for it.
This match holds both listings while it is live, so neither of you is offered elsewhere.
After the call
How did it go?
DVSA does not tell us anything, so your answer is the only thing we have. If it did not go through, your listing goes straight back.
Outcome
Tell us what happened.
One tap. There is no wrong answer here.
Thank you
That is recorded.
Thanks for telling us.
Check your booking
Look at your next DVSA reminder emailDVSA does not confirm a swap at the time, so the reminder email about your test is where you will see the new details. If it still shows the old ones, ring DVSA on 0300 200 1122.

Booking your test
Three things worth knowing first.
We cannot book a test for you, and we are not allowed to book, change, swap or cancel a test for anyone. Book it yourself on GOV.UK.
One
Pick a centre you actually intend to useOnce you have booked, moving your test is limited to the same centre, one of the three nearest to the centre you booked at, or the centre you first booked at. Choosing well now keeps your options open later.
Two
You get two changes, and a swap is one of themChanging the date, the time or the centre, or swapping with another learner, each use one.
Three
Talk to your instructor before you pick a dateAsk whether they think you will be ready, and whether they are free that day with a car.
The only safe way to find an earlier test is through GOV.UK. Anything that scans the booking service for cancellations is not allowed, and using one can get your own online access suspended for 12 months.
Rated Driving is not DVSA. DVSA does not run, approve or endorse any system, website or service that lists, matches or brokers test swaps. We introduce two learners who each already have a car practical test booked. The swap itself is requested and completed by the learners with DVSA, by phone. We never book, change, swap or cancel a test for anyone, and we never contact the DVSA booking service.
